The GCC has no shortage of IT providers. Picking the right managed IT services provider comes down to a handful of questions about SLAs, security practice, language and regional experience. Here is the checklist.
Riyadh, Jeddah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are full of companies offering managed IT. The websites all look similar and the promises all sound the same, which makes the choice feel harder than it is. In practice, a few direct questions separate a provider that will run your technology well from one that will simply answer the phone when things break.
Start with the SLA, in writing
Ask for the actual service-level agreement, not a summary. It should state response times by severity, resolution targets, coverage hours and what happens when targets are missed. A provider that hesitates to put numbers in writing is telling you something. Ask how downtime is measured and what counts as an incident, because that is where weak agreements hide.
Look at their security practice, not their security page
Any provider you hire becomes part of your attack surface, so their own discipline matters as much as the services they sell. Ask how they secure their access to your systems, whether their engineers use multi-factor authentication, and how they would detect and report an incident affecting your data. If they manage security for you, ask what monitoring runs day to day and who looks at it.
The regional questions that matter
- Bilingual support: can your staff raise a ticket and get help in Arabic and English?
- Regional experience: have they run IT for businesses in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, with the compliance and procurement realities that come with it?
- On-site reach: what happens when a problem needs hands on hardware, and how quickly?
- Time-zone coverage: is support actually staffed during your working week, Sunday or Monday start included?
References beat rankings
- Ask for two or three current clients of similar size and industry, and actually call them
- Ask those references what happens when something goes badly wrong, not when things go well
- Ask how the provider handled their last major incident or migration
- Be cautious of contracts that make leaving difficult; confidence shows up as easy exit terms
You are not buying a helpdesk. You are choosing the team that will be inside your systems every day.
